Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Kenny's diabetes information site! Here, I will be providing important information about the causes and treatments of low blood sugar, what to do if Kenny gets sick, what to do when a substitute teacher is in charge of the classroom and much more. I will also provide links to other websites and videos that provide a lot of useful information regarding Type 1 Diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the beta cells of the pancreas stop producing insulin. People need insulin to turn the carbohydrates that they eat into the energy that their bodies need. When you have type 1 diabetes you must take this insulin from an external source with an insulin pump, pen or syringe.

Kenny does not have an insulin pump yet. He takes injections of insulin four times per day: one before each meal and another at bedtime. Before each injection, he needs to test his blood sugar to help determine how much insulin he needs.

For the proper management of his diabetes, Kenny lives on a fairly strict eating and activity schedule. This schedule is by no means set in stone, but it often requires planning ahead to adjust it safely.

Please click on the tabs above or follow the links listed below for more information about type 1 diabetes and how to take care of Kenny.

Thanks for reading.

I am currently working on a new website that will include even more detailed information for Kenny's other caregivers. Here, I have created a carb calculator lots of other fun stuff! As soon as I find a decent web host, I will have it up and running. I will add a post here when it is ready, so keep checking back.

***important***
The most important parts of this site have been printed and put into Kenny's red diabetes information folders that are to be kept for reference in the classroom and school office.
